Caucasians immigrated hundreds of years ago to the United States and built a solid education foundation which led to better paying jobs and higher living standards. Caucasians did face difficulties adjusting to the United States just as Hispanics and immigrants do today such as language barriers, education, and job opportunities. Most Hispanics are first generation students whose families come from all over Latin America. These families are learning to adjust to life in the United States and do not make as much money compared to Caucasian descendants who are already comfortably established in American society. —Juanita C. …Maybe it’s because European-Americans have already struggled and have had time to settle and establish themselves in society, while minorities are still coming into America and are currently struggling to make a life here. There are so many reasons.... —Juanita C. Torres, Jan 29, 2008, EDCI 4322-60
I believe the reason for the Hispanic-Caucasian gap comes from the fact that most Hispanics come from immigrant families who were poorly educated. The people who immigrate to United States are mostly uneducated and poor who left their countries to find new opportunities. Since they find new opportunities in this country, they feel their children don't need to go to college or pursue a master's degree in order to succeed as they have. They don't motivate their children to go beyond expectations. That attitude is adopted by their children and instead of finishing high school or going to college, they start working to support the family.—Forest, February 23, 2008, EDCI 4322-60
