When I first arrived to the door of our classroom today I was pretty surprised to see that everyone inside was working on some type of assignment, I have to admit that seeing this was pretty intimidating. When Dr. Boyanton handed me the learning survey I looked at it hoping that it was the syllabus and not some assignment. The first couple minutes of class were pretty intense.

When Dr. Boyanton started introducing herself I started feeling a little more relaxed because she took the time to describe exactly what we were going to be doing in class and also what she expected from us. When she told us that we were going to be playing the name game I felt relieved because I have played this game in several other classes and I had done pretty good. However I had never played it the way she made us play. I thought that is was very good that she made us think of a phrase that would help other people remember our name. This added a little more excitement to the game by making it funnier but at the same time a little more difficult because we had to remember more than just the person’s name. I have taken other classes where I go the whole semester without knowing the name of some of my fellow students. I think this type of activity is very good because it keeps students from being embarrassed to talk to other students because they don’t know their name.

The way Dr. Boyanton made us get in groups and present a presentation on different topics about the name game was also a very good idea because we were able to discuss what we thought about the name game as a class. I believe that this type of ice breaker should be used in the majority of class rooms and it is definitely a strategy that I will use when I become a teacher.
