I Want to Change
By Vanessa Rodriguez

I want to change,
I want to show others
that I can be happy about anything,
Even though I don’t agree with certain things.
I want to change,
I want to show others
that I can be happy about anything,
Even though I don’t agree with certain things.
-
I want to change,
I want to stop complaining all the time,
Even though this world can be frustrating sometimes.
Even though this world can be frustrating sometimes.
-
I want to change,
I want to show the world
that I can smile all the time,
Even through there are hard times as well as sad times.
that I can smile all the time,
Even through there are hard times as well as sad times.
-
I want to change
I want to learn to appreciate everything that I have,
Even though I do not have everything I need.
I want to change
I want to learn to appreciate everything that I have,
Even though I do not have everything I need.
-
I want to change,
I want to see
that everything happens for a reason,
Even though many things are beyond my understanding.
Even though many things are beyond my understanding.
-
I want to change,
I want to be outspoken
and state my opinion with confidence,
without feeling shy, embarrassed, or nervous.
without feeling shy, embarrassed, or nervous.
-
I want to change,
I want to try new things
and explore new experiences
without feeling afraid or timid.
-
without feeling afraid or timid.
-
I want to change,
because I know,
If I change,
I would feel a lot better,
happier,
and healthier.
Note: This poem was inspired by the class research project which Vanessa conducted on how her personality of being shy affected her learning in Summer 2008.
