School of Education
University of Texas at Brownsville
Summer 2008
This course has been one of the best experiences in my education career thus far. The knowledge I have gained is one thing, but the practical knowledge I now have counts for so much more. I have many ideas about how to implement the theories of learning that we discussed in class. I really hope to make a difference in my students’ lives using the new information I gained in this class. I am not just saying this-I really do want to make a difference for my students.
This class not only will help us be better teachers, but it will also help those of us that want to be parents. I think future parents should take this course! Everywhere around me, I see examples of parents doing the wrong thing with their children. Every time I see something like this, I think, “I will be a better parent”. It’s too bad some people don’t know about human development; if they did, we probably wouldn’t have so many problems.
I am also satisfied with the fact that this class made us look at ourselves. Being a reflective learner will help me in my future teaching career. Not only this, it will also help me know my motives for doing certain things; it will also allow me to be a better, happier person. Thank you Dr. Dengting for introducing us to all the new things we learned in this course. Thank you for believing in us and for inspiring us to do our best always! Good luck in NY! (Ruben Rincon, Jr.)
Reflecting on this class, I can say that it is definitely one of the ones that I’ve learned the most information in one semester. Even though the semester is one month, I feel that I have learned practical information. I’m hoping that I can retain the information not only for the final, but also for its application in the classroom.
Thank you Dr. Dengting. I will never forget you or what you have taught me. You are an awesome teacher and we need more people like you in the world. Thank you for sharing your passion with us and for inspiring us to work so hard. I’ve never had any teacher push me so hard without being negative or demeaning. I appreciate everything you have done and the time you have spent in grading and lecturing. Congratulations with what you have done and I wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors! -Heathcliff Lopez
I have never wanted a class to be longer then it is. I always want to get it over with, but not in this class. We were able to learn a lot in such a small amount of time and it has been fun. I really wish I could take you for another class, but we both know that will not happen. I do understand why you need to leave, though. Besides this may be a good move for your book. You got the perspectives of people from down south now you can get perspectives from the Midwest.
I just want to wish you well and look me up, if you remember, when you publish your book. Just to let me know it’s out so I can get a copy. Have a safe trip and enjoy yourself up there. You will be missed by many. :) (Vero Gene Frady)
Today was the last official class day for summer session I. I went to class a little frustrated because till today I was still polishing my research paper to be turned in as well as having a hard time finding a babysitter for my boys.
But going into Denting’s class everyday was like my time to get away and learn at the same time. I enjoyed going to her class because she made it so interesting everyday with all her different teaching strategies. In all my years here at the University of Texas at Brownsville I have never had a professor so concerned about her students and willing to go out of her way just to teach them with her teaching techniques. I am forever grateful to Dengting for being hard with us and believing that we had would be successful in completing all the assignments given to us.
Today we also learned that we have been her only class that started with 21 students and ended with 21 students. She also notified us that this is her last semester teaching at UTB. I for one will miss her deeply and like to thank her for allowing us to learn and open up about ourselves while relating it to learning techniques. I applaud you for all your accomplishments and wish you the best in all that you do. Please keep in touch because I feel you are not only my professor but my friend and a part of my family. Please give me an email where I can keep in contact with you. Good Luck to you in all your endeavors and family life. (Stephanie Huerta)
I’m glad that I was in this class. It brought so much happiness to me. I met so many friends and now I am not scared to say hi to them. My self-management project didn’t go so well, but it is okay because I thought that it would be better to take myself out of the environment that I was in…I was grateful for being in this class, and the university is going to miss out on professors like you, Dr. Boyanton. (Vanessa A. Lopez)
Today I felt sad because this is the last day we are meeting and I won’t see Dr. Denting again. But however, we had an excellent discussion about how to change our project about the topic we chose. I chose procrastination and the way we solved it is that we tried hard and tried to turn in every assignment on time. I liked the topic about eating healthy because this is a problem that a lot of people in the world have, it is problems with the eating habits...
This is the last class session and I can say that I enjoyed it too much, and we are all going to miss Dr. Boyanton. Thanks for everything!!! (Dennis Salinas)
I am sad that the summer is over and I am sadder that you are leaving UTB. I consider myself really honest and I was waiting to find among all of these professors a teacher who actually and sincerely cared of her students, a teacher who even though was demanding was so comprehensive. I am glad I had you as a teacher, I know that you will do good in all you come along with. Just remember to always smile.
Thank you for believing in each single one of us, it has been and it will be my most memorable time here at UTB. I wish UTB would hire more people of your caliber. Thanks for everything. Even though I did not do so hot in the test, I learned every single day, it has been a wonderful summer. I felt so overwhelmed since day one and I still do, but it was all worth it. Keep up believing in your students, and keep smiling!
A final thought: "some people come along the way and pass through your life, but some people come along the way pass through your life and touch your heart."Those people are the ones who I will never forget. I hope that the day I become a teacher and I will be one who touches the children’s heart. (Anais Gonzalez)
And finally to you Dr. Boyanton, you are added to the list of few teachers to have convinced me that teacher is worth every moment. You have become a role model to me because I want to become a teacher with passion, belief, and confidence in my students as you do with yours. I know today that my students are a reflection of me and because of that I want to see them succeed as I have. I definitely believe that we as teachers can make an extreme difference in every students life.
Thank You Dr. Boyanton for having confidence in all of us. You have been the first education teacher that has justified my decision in becoming an educator.(Lisa Avalos)
I am glad that I decided to take this class and specially with you Dr. Boyanton, I learned a lot from you as a caring person , excellent teacher and professional. It is an honor to have teachers like you in our university. Thank you. (Rosalinda Gonzalez)
I am not just adding Dr. Denting in my list of motivators, yet I am locking her energetic motivation deep in my heart. She is my role model for now on. (Irene Olmos)
Thank you once again Dr. Boyanton for the opportunity of giving us the tools to reflect, not only on the psyche of children, but on our own lives. This class was a very eye-opening experience for me. I will not forget this motivation, learning environment and my peers. Thank you for everything Dr. Denting Boyanton. (Abel Gomez)
I don’t think I will ever forget any of my classmates and I hope they won’t forget me, either. I loved this class and the way Dr. Boyanton taught it, I would recommend that nothing to be changed from this class. I would love to thank Dr. Boyanton for this great experience and I have learned many things from her which I will definitely incorporate into my classrooms.
Again thank you, Dr. Boyanton
I would also like to thank all my classmates. THANK YOU GUYS!! (Crespin Gonzalez)
