In the field of education, there are a variety of areas I would like to explore in regards to teaching and learning. I would like to pursue to study the areas of parenting and learning, behavior/discipline and learning, the impact of assessments and learning, as well as diversity within the classroom. I believe these are all extremely important aspects that relate to education and areas that teachers should continuously inquire upon.
One of the regions of education that I want to learn and discover more about is parenting or parental involvement and its impact on learning. I feel that parenting is an extremely important issue and it has a tremendous impact on students’ educational future and learning success. I believe that parental involvement is important from preschool and throughout the high school years. There is a lot of responsibility that must be held upon the teacher and that is why we must be well-rounded educators and extremely solid in our specialty areas of education. However, there has to also be continuous research and involvement of the parents. I believe education would be more successful for all students if there was a balance of teacher and parental involvement. I would like to discover how parents shape our learning, motivational skills, social skills, moral decisions, behaviors, and our individual personalities. I think it is important that we learn more about this area in the field of education so that future teachers can cooperate with parents accordingly in order to benefit the success of every student.
I also think that the area of behavior/discipline and learning is an extremely significant area that I would love to study. I feel strongly that this is one of the biggest areas that has been studied and will continue to be in the field of education. Each student is his or her own individual and comes from different environments, as well as a multiple of factors that might play a positive or negative role on their learning capabilities. I believe because of the contribution of all these different factors and the needs of each individual student, this plays a role in the increase in behavioral problems within the educational system. This is why it is important for us to classify misbehavior and the different behavioral characteristics of all students. I would like to research how to study these behavioral issues, how to handle them within the classroom, and what behavioral management methods are effective or ineffective within the educational setting.
Another area I feel that would contribute significantly to my educational future is the role of tests and assessments on learning. It is important to continuously research what testing methods are effective or ineffective. I would like to explore how students respond differently to testing and a variety of different assessments in a multiple of subjects. I would like to discover if tests contribute or inhibit students to learn. I believe assessments are essential to learning, but we need to be knowledgeable about the wide range of ways that we can test students. I feel that tests do not always map out a students educational future and that sometimes we rely a substantial amount on testing as educators to rate our students learning progress. This is an area that is worth exploring because all teachers use assessment in some form within their classroom and we must continuously find new ways to guide students to be better test takers, as well as discover more effective test strategies or ways to measure the knowledge of our given curriculum.
One other area of learning that I feel would be important for me to explore is student diversity and multiculturalism. It is important for teachers to understand these fields of education in order to assist students to incorporate the understanding of other cultures and multiculturalism throughout their education. Exploring and teaching these areas will benefit them in becoming more aware of the different issues, factors, and individualism that every student possesses within a classroom. It helps bring together unity and build social skills that will develop into a more positive learning environment for all students. It is imperative as teachers to understand that teaching about diversity and multiculturalism will give students an increase in confidence, motivation, productivity, recognition, and encourage students to all work together to achieve the same outcome.
I believe all these areas are beneficial in the field of education and they are different areas that I find fascinating, as well as extremely significant within the educational setting. I think all these areas of exploration will only end up benefiting students and us as teachers by creating a positive and safe environment that will give them a sense of individual pride, confidence, acceptance, recognition, as well as increase productivity within the classroom. It is our responsibility as teachers to continuously explore the different areas of education and find new and exciting ways to increase the learning success of each individual student.
