Before class I was reading the syllabus and was not very excited to go over the theories of Erikson and Piage. Being a psychology major in my undergrad I had quite a few classes that reviewed all of their different theories. Needless to say these classes did not really hold my interest.

Now, for the first time, I was actually interested in this material. I think the way that tonight’s class was taught, how it involved everyone and not just merely a lecture, had a lot to do with it. The way that an actual example was given for each stage went a long way to help us to better understand what each theory meant. I feel that Dr. Boyanton makes you search inside yourself, and in doing this it helps you to learn how the theories apply to our everyday life.

Learning these theories helps you to understand why a child may be acting out in a certain way. I also think it helps to teach you better ways to interact with the child. These theories help a teacher to become more supportive of the efforts of the child. Which I feel is very important when it comes to the building of the child’s psyche.
