Today’s class was the most interesting class we’ve had so far. I specifically enjoyed this class because I can relate to the teachings of Erickson. I also learned so much from his theory, there were many points where he states that children want to be loved, and it’s so true.

To be quite honest I was a little touched emotionally because my son happens to be going through some behavior issues in school for the past 4 years and instead of me embracing him and supporting him. I get angry and frustrated and often feel like a failure. As Professor Dengting went through all the psychological needs I found myself guilty of being that parent that is very anal when it comes to structure and order, for example if my son dirties his new clothes I get so upset. I always tell my son Let mommy do it for you, and because of that my son has gotten lazy and expects me to pick up after him all the time.

I definitely learned a lot from this class, I learned that I need to start supporting my son instead of making him feel unwanted and unsure of who he is. Honestly this class opened my eyes to a lot of things that I need as well. I can only hope for that best.
