My First Class

Tuesday's class was very enjoyable and pleasant. I have to admit I really didn't know what to expect coming into this class and the game we played was a very nice ice breaker. We played the name game, which unfortunately in my mind has a negative connotation. However, when the game got rolling it was very interesting to see what people came up with to describe themselves and make themselves memorable. Repetition was definitely a major component of making this game successful and manageable. Because we all heard the names so many times, by the end of the class Professor Boyanton was able to point at random people and everyone recalled them right away.

The only thing that was a little bit negative about the game was the actual physical setting. The problem that lies here was the fact that not everyone was visible in the circle and therefore the students cut out of the circle were names that were not as easy to remember. All in all I think that this Name Game is a great method for teachers to use for students to gain an appreciation for the approach taken to get to know names and faces. The only thing I would suggest is to really make sure that everyone is visible to each other and eager to participate! (Homestar, Sep 4, 2008)
