The class on 9/8, EDI 600, was great! It was fun, interesting, positive, organized, and very professional. The introductory game, the name game, played to welcome students while at the same time introducing students to one another, was a playful yet educational icebreaker. It was intimidating at first to think of having to comprehend remembering all students names preceding mine, but it became less so as other classmates before me tended to have a struggle or two. However, right before my turn that anxiety filled me again for a brief second, before I began reeling off the names in the circle.
As I said before the game was a playful icebreaker and though we as grad students had fun, I presume that younger generations might embrace it even more. As one classmate put it, it may be a good idea to relate the correlation with your name (first one only) to a specific group, i.e. fruit, vegetable, sports, etc. My intended major is Childhood Education and I would love to introduce this game to my class at the beginning of each new year.
Aside from the game, it was interesting to see the variation of individuals in the class and how each one introduced themselves in the manor that they did. I also noticed the friendliness and positiveness of the class. This is very intriguing to me, as I view myself as both friendly and positive, and therefore feel it will be a great environment to learn with individuals of similar traits.
I look forward to this semester and your teaching techniques and skills. Thank you for a great start!
