I really enjoyed last night’s class, especially learning Chinese. It made the class fun and was a great opener to the discussion ahead. Making connections with English and Chinese was smart and I think the best way for us to learn Chinese. Xie xie, Dengting!
Last night’s discussion on memory was really interesting. I liked even though it was a lecture, it was interactive. I’m personally not a fan of lecturing. I enjoyed trying to memorize each other’s phone numbers. I didn’t know the mind can only process 7 bits of unrelated information at a time, which is why there are 7 digits in a phone number. I learned something new!
This idea is also helpful when teaching. With the idea of “no more than 7” it tells us that you don’t want to overwhelm students when teaching them new information. If you teach them 20 new things, they most likely won’t remember it all. Teach them 7 new facts at a time.
