EDI600 Last night’s class was very informative to me. Even though it was mostly a lecture about the theories of Erikson and Piaget it was still very interesting to me.

First, we had to fill out a sheet about the stages of our life using Erickson’s stages of learning. Then Mrs. Boyanton started to lecture but made it fun by constantly telling stories which she used as examples for the stages in Erikson’s theory of learning. She was laughing and making us open up our minds to thinking about the stages we went through.

After reviewing Erikson’s stages we went back to our sheet and shared our experiences and thoughts with a classmate. I thought it was an interesting process because it got us thinking back to our childhood and also getting to know our classmates childhood.

Later on in the class we started briefly talking about Piaget’s theories, which we also did an activity for. Mrs. Boyanton explained to us about Piaget’s theory of how we learn. We did an experiment where we tried any strategy we could to remember twenty five words she showed us. After a couple of minutes she took the words away and we had to write as many down as we could. I surprised myself by remembering twenty three words. I felt as though my strategy of categorizing the words really worked and I got to share it with the class.

Even though this class was different than our previous ones it still kept the class involved and opening our minds to different theories and activities to use later on as a teacher. Thank you again.
