On Tuesday, October 21st, at 7 pm, Teachers College will host "Education and the Next President," a debate between Linda Darling-Hammond, education advisor to Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama, and Lisa Graham Keegan, education advisor to Republican nominee John McCain.
I do not believe they should be evaluated based on student’s performance alone. A teacher can not choose their class. There are many factors that contribute to grades. If a student has two parents that work it will be harder to get help at home with homework. If their parents are not well educated it will also be harder for them to get help at home especially in the high grades. The students in a particular area might also be of an immigrant class. English studies will not be there native language it each activity might be more of a struggle. In an area that does a lot of farming the student will be focused on getting the crops harvested rather then studying for a test. I think we can prepare teachers better by giving them even a more active role in the classroom during school. While I feel the classes I’m taking are beneficial I feel I learn the most from my actual school observation. I often believe that hands on experience is the best type of experience.
