I must say that I really, really enjoyed the mock teaching we did tonight. I have noticed that over this semester I have gained a lot of confidence speaking in front of people; I actually like to speak in front of people now! I was one of the teachers tonight, and although there was little preparation time, and little planning, I felt our group did a fantastic job, and that I worked very well as the teacher. It was a great activity that helped you decide what kind of a teacher you would like to be, as well as how each strategy actually worked.

Interestingly enough, I also recognized how some people went up with the intent of performing one strategy, however they actually conveyed a different strategy; this makes me think that maybe the style of teaching an educator has may actually be more innate, and difficult to change despite the kind of teaching you feel you would like to use.

This lesson has made me reflect upon what kind of teacher I would like to be. I think I would like to be a combination of all three. I would like to be behavioral in that I would give the students much verbal praise, and reinforcements for good work. However, I would also like to be cognitive in that I would like my students to truly understand the material they are being taught; I would like them to understand and explain their thinking process because this is crucial to truly learning.

Furthermore, I would like to be humanistic in that I would want my classroom to be an environment in which students feel safe and comfortable. I would like it to be nurturing, yet academic; I want to help build student’s self-efficacy and self-esteem , as well as teach them academics. Tonight’s class was of course, fantastic!
