Today in Edi 15 we received our syllabus for the quarter. During class we did an activity in which Professor Boyanton asked us what rules will make us feel comfortable in the classroom. Mine were 1) Treat others how you would like to be treated 2) Let everyone have their say on their opinion 3) Don’t make irrational/immature comments while someone is speaking. The third rule is one of my pet peeves. It really annoys me when an immature individual feels the need to say something demining while another student is speaking just to get a laugh out of some people. These kinds of people are still stuck in high school, and I find it to be obnoxious.
After everyone shared their particular rules in order to make the classroom more comfortable for everyone, I think the general consensus was that respecting each other is the most commonly shared rule. One student had said their rule was to keep an open mind. I thought that was perhaps one of the most important rules. Close mindedness can cause confrontations and disrespect within the classroom and we’re in college, we’re supposed to be open to new things anyway.
