During Thursday’s class I learned a lot about some of the other students. Dr. Boyanton put some of my classmates in a panel. Each of them had prior teaching experience. It was very interesting to listen to what they had to say. One of them teaches music, which is really cool because I do not know a lot about music education. It seems as if she makes music fun for her students. Another girl instructs karate to a group of younger and older children. When I was younger I was a member of a karate academy so her information pertained to my life. She mentioned valuable information about how to instruct children who are older and sometimes misbehave. I will definitely use her data when I instruct a class one day. The final student member of this panel is a future Physical Education teacher. It was nice to hear someone else’s philosophy on teaching Physical Education because I will be teaching this subject as well. I will definitely try to incorporate his fresh ideas into my teaching and studies.

Dr. Boyanton provided the class with her experiences as a student in China. It was really interesting to hear how the Chinese progress up to college. The Chinese population definitely puts a lot more stress in their studies and education. It is always good to put a significant amount of effort in studying but it is not healthy to put too much stress into it. As Dr. Boyanton mentioned it is very important to implement love and compassion into the classroom. Sometimes I am very serious and stern. It is good to be that way at times but I want my students to respect and appreciate me as a teacher.

I will try to become friendlier and compassionate when I start teaching. I really enjoyed the panel activity because I was allowed to ask them many different types of questions. It really got the class involved and enthused because it features a lot of communication between everyone in the room. This activity is definitely something I would consider implementing in my future lesson plans.

I enjoy being in Dr. Boyanton’s class because she presents us with fun activities and allows us to bring our own opinions into the classroom. Many of my past teachers have not allowed me to present my ideas to a class. I always look forward to EDI 15A because we have a great instructor and it provides me with valuable information on a topic I love.
