EDI 15A is still one of my favorite classes that I am taking this semester. This is because we have an excellent professor teaching this class. Dr. Boyanton allows us to express our own ideas and opinions in a non-judgmental environment. I also enjoy this class because we engage in fun activities and discussions. The different activities we have done in this class include individual and teamwork things.
I enjoy writing my logs because they are meant to improve the way I handle different issues that arise. Such as that time when I got into an argument with my friend Jon. I learned that I could have treated Jon with more respect and dignity. The most recent log I have written was also enjoyable to write. This is because it dealt with motivation. Two of my friends explained to me different times when they were effectively motivated and ineffectively motivated. It was great to listen to someone else’s opinions on the topic of motivation. I feel that in order to motivate someone you have to encourage that person to succeed in a positive way. You should not be forceful or rude to someone even if you are trying to help this person. This class has been enjoyable and I am excited to learn more interesting data regarding this subject as the semester continues.
During this class we engaged in a team activity. It involved constructing a ramp with a newspaper and letting a marble fall down the ramp. The marble was meant to stop at the end of the ramp. I was working with three other people in my group. My group did not do as well as the other groups when it came to the task. This is because we all had different philosophies and we could not come to a compromise. Therefore there was a lot of arguing and disagreements that took place between the different group members. We were able to construct a ramp but were unable to stop the marble from moving once it fell down the ramp.
I realized that our group made this error because there was too much arguing and conflicts. The other two groups did an excellent job when it came to building their ramps. This is because they had good leaders and the group members were able to come to compromises with each other. If I could do this project over again I would have tried to be a better leader for my group.
Teamwork is a vital part of succeeding with various projects. If one is unable to work with others effectively then this person will have trouble with the work world. This is because many professions involve people working together in order to complete various projects and work. I feel that my group could have succeeded if we had worked better with each other. When working with groups each member should have respect for each other. Everyone should be allowed to express their opinions and ideas. The best ideas should be used in order to perform the task.
