Beautiful women are usually tall, thin, have large breasts, full lips, long hair, nice smile, long hair and light colored eyes. Girls are taught from a young age to look pretty, wear dresses, be polite and smile. On America’s Next Top Model, there were only a handful of plus sized models on the show. In one case, they noticed one of the size 0 models were getting heavy. They had to airbrush the fat from her stomach; I would like to know what fat they are talking about, she’s a twig!
On Law & Order: SVU, women are almost always the victim of rape and murder. The women are usually very vulnerable and afraid to testify in court. In other television shows that take place in a high school setting, girls are usually pressured into having sex with their boyfriends. Television always makes girls seem vulnerable, easily influenced and cannot make decisions for themselves. Media also shows the fat girls with glasses as being the “uncool” kids in high school. Media bases nothing about women on personality; it is all about looks and sex appeal. This is an uphill battle since everyone knows, sex sells.
