I think today’s class was really interesting. When everyone brought in articles from magazines portraying women and men and certain lights it was interesting. When looking at so many ads it just shows to everyone how society is portraying each gender to the generations. It is sad to see how society has portrayed women to be this “sex object” in commercials and television. When younger girls see this they get the wrong message. They see that you have to portray this sex object to be accepted into society.

The video that we watched (Killing us softly) was very enlightening. The women in the video was very good at showing through the ages that women have been seen as this object that can be used and be shown as someone who stands in the background. What our students see outside of school is going to affect how they see themselves in society and to themselves. Because of these ads these are how young teenage girls have such problems like anorexia and bulimia. These young girls try to be this skinny perfect looking person that is seen in magazines. Because of these they are more concentrated on what they look like rather than knowledge and working hard to be successful in the world.
