I really enjoyed our last class discussion and the cross-over exercise that we did. As for the cross-over exercise, I felt very uncomfortable when we were first told what we were going to be doing, but what came as a big surprise to me was how shocked I was after we completed the exercise and I actually learned a lot from it. I was uncomfortable at first because not only were there’re personal questions being asked, but I was very worried about being singled out or put on the spot.

However, I was very shocked when I realized that I was not alone in the sense that everybody else in one way or another has been in the same situations that I have. This exercise shows that as a whole, we are not so different after all and that’s why this exercise ties in very well with our discussion on race.

I fully agree with what certain people said in class about how race is not something that can or should be categorized and we should not think in these terms but instead, we should think that there is one and only one race, the “human” race. I think it is safe to say that this is definitely true and we can see that this is evident when we saw how in the exercise, we were not very different from one another. In my opinion, I think that the world would be a much better place if we could all stop for a moment and actually realize this.

Of course society has greatly improved over time; however it is not yet perfect or at least not as good as it could be. I do believe that with time and care, this could all be changed for the better. However and unfortunately, for now it is true what they say. “The more things change, the more that they stay the same.”
