I thought the movie October Sky was a very touching and inspirational film that showed how motivated a teenager can get, especially if it is for something they desire. One of the best parts of the movie was where the teacher, Ms. Reilly, motivated Homer and supported his dreams of building rockets, even though she stated that it involved math, which he was not good at.
I believe that people should support and motivate the people they care for if they show an interest in a particular dream. It does not matter if it seems unattainable because I think if people do work hard enough, dreams can come true, even though it does sounds cliche. While the class was discussing motivating issues, I do disagree with people needing “negative energy/reinforcement” to help a person get motivated to do something. Maybe it is the choice of words used, but I do not believe someone has to have negative energy (whether it be at work, stress, home, friends) in order to be motivated and successful in life.
I think that a person needs to have obstacles to go through in life, in which this can lead to the motivation to get over that “wall/hump” in your path to success. An obstacle does not have to be necessarily negative for a person (it could be), but it can be a challenge where a person strives to overcome it and can feel accomplished and successful. Through this, a person can learn a lot about themselves and about life. Homer Hiccum worked hard and overcame many obstacles, both negative and positive, to achieve his dream. Through motivation, a person can overcome any challenge.
