My first class: From anxiety to excitement

Coming into class I felt a lot of anxiety. I am a new graduate student at C.W. Post who does not know anyone. Even prior to starting the course, the class name “Psychology Foundation of Education” made me uncomfortable. I usually struggle with psychology classes so I came into class feeling uneasy. Walking in to find a seat I was welcomed with a few hellos that immediately made me feel better already.
After playing the Name Game, my emotions completely made a dramatic change. While playing the game many laughs were shared within the classroom, this set the mood for the class as a whole. Even though we were dealing with a difficult task by not only remembering each students name but something that helps remember each name, we were having fun which made the activity enjoyable.
The class time could not have passed any faster; I left with none of the emotions I first came in with. I learned from this one class, the Name Game could act like a difficult topic we learn within the semester. We as students need to take in the methods we used to correctly play the Name Game and apply them to our further studies within the class.
The class ended me with a cliffhanger, I asked myself “what are we in for next week?” I know longer have any doubts about taking psychology, I am excited to see what is next and how I can use some of the learning tactics I discovered using the Name Game in my future studies. .
