I really enjoyed today’s class. It gave us a chance to learn about other people’s teaching experiences. Some of their personal stories relate to what I will be dealing with in the future, especially Sonia’s. As a speech pathologist I may have to work in a special needs school like UCP. I would work with kids who are going through physical therapy as well as speech therapy and keep a log of their progress to educate their parents on what they are doing. My sister actually attends UCP and goes through similar therapy that Sonia talked about. She also has a log book sent home each day to let my parents know how her day what and what activities she participated in.
This was the first class I have ever been in that the teacher took time out to allow people to explain what some of their past experiences have been, or what teaching experience they have. Allowing people to ask their fellow classmates questions that they are worried about I think calmed some people’s nerves. I learned today that many aspiring teachers or speech pathologists have the same fears as I do. Learning this definitely helped me calm my nerves. Knowing that my classmates feel the same way as me or have experienced some of the things that scare me was reassuring.
I like how the class is structured to allow open discussions between all of the classmates, and the instructor. I think allowing discussions makes the students feel more comfortable, and heard because they can voice their opinions.
