Our class today was very insightful. I’m glad we discussed all of our fears as a group. I really like that our class is able to open and honest with their concerns, as well as their insight. I did learn that some people have no previous experience with younger children and teaching and interacting with younger kids is completely new to them. In some ways that can be beneficial to them because they get to start a clean slate and do not have to worry about past experiences affecting their teaching habits.
I thought the panel discussion was a great idea. It was a way for us to communicate on a friend/peer level rather than not getting our questions answered. (Because I know I wouldn’t have been able to get some questions answered if it wasn’t for class today.)
I thought it was very interesting how Morgan didn’t understand the anxiety level of students who aren’t very physically fit or into sports. I think that had to do with her excelling in her sports, but it put in perspective we go into areas of study because that is what we are good at. Not everyone is a mathematician or athlete!
Honestly, I have not been able to purchase the book. The one time it was available I didn’t have enough money to purchase all of my books, and this being the most expensive, it wasn’t priority. I just got my refund check from Adelphi, I heard the book store was sold out, but I will be ordering online as soon as my check clears. I’m sorry, I’ve just been having a very hard time financially.
I really must say that I absolutely LOVE the way you run class. If all professors as well as teachers in younger grades ran their classes like you I think students will be more comfortable with participating and excelling further than expected by both the student and the teacher.
