I am really enjoying this class. I love how you take everyone’s opinions into consideration. Most humanities classes that I’ve taken were “Sit down, shut up, and listen”. I like how we interact with one another and our thoughts are valued. Being heard is a big part of my learning process. If I don’t feel like I am being heard I usually shut down and space out. Using a panel of our peers was a great idea. We are all on the road to doing the same line of work, and hearing from the people who had more experience teaching made it interesting to see what I’ll be up against. The whole panel answered questions that have been in the back of my mind forever.

My biggest fear is not having control of my class. They covered what they do about that AND some! I know when I student teach my approach will be different that I originally though it would be. I need to show no fear and know that I DO know what I’m talking about.

I feel that my learning style is unique. I am a very visual learner when it comes to learning new ideas. Not only do I have to write it down, but I have to see an example or a picture to really fully understand. Learning music is so much different that learning any other subject. With music, someone can play or sing something to me once and I can sing or play it back with no hesitation. When it comes to more complex learning, as in reading, I need to read it aloud so I can hear it. If I can’t read it aloud to myself I will need to read the paragraph over numerous times. If something I read is not of interest to me I tend to get bored and then procrastinate from there. This is something I’m trying to work on amongst myself. I think one of the biggest things that I’m looking forwards to in this class is seeing if there are people that learn the same way I do. I want to learn more about the other learning styles and maybe incorporate them into my learning style.

I ordered the required reading online and should be getting it in the mail any time now. I’m looking forwards to delving into the book and learning about what makes people tick when it comes to learning. I want to take in everything I can from this class. I have a feeling that this class is going to help me be more confident in my teaching skills.
