I believe that there is no exact age range to adolescence. I think adolescence depend more at where you are mentally or on your situation in life. Some people can believe that the age range of adolescence is 13-18 years old. However, a 13 year old can still act like a child. Whereas, a 16 year old may act more like an adult because they got pregnant and had a child of their own.
For me when I was growing up I feel like adolescence started when I entered high school. It was at that point in time when I had new responsibilities. In high school you were responsible for going to class, getting there on time and doing your homework.
In today’s society the range of adolescence keeps becoming younger. The reason being the more and more pressures are being put on today’s youth such as your body image, test scores, college, etc. In today’s society I feel like people considered adolescence to start at 11 years old and adulthood to start at 18 years old.
Also in other countries such as Italy adolescence starts early and is short lived. In my high school Italian class we had pen pals from San Marino and I remember mine describing their version of high school, which to me didn’t seem like a high school at all. The way she described it made it seem like a college. In Italy they decide their career after elementary school and attend a high school that focuses on that career. For example, my pen pal was a foreign language major therefore she attended a high school that focused on all different types of languages.
