I really enjoyed the movie, October Sky, which we watched in class. I love that it was based on a true story, because it really makes you believe in miracles and the power of perseverance. I think Homer’s motivation to get out of his hometown Coalwood was strong enough for him to keep trying and stick to his dream when other people were unsupportive and did not believe in him. It was great to see an adolescent who was so motivated towards success that he was able to encourage his three friends into making rockets with him and trying for the science fair. As a future teacher I find the movie to be really uplifting because it shows that adolescents can be motivated. It is common for people to believe that adolescents are unmotivated and do not want to try for anything.

This movie put in to perspective that an adolescent can already be a motivated person and/or can be motivated by the right people; people who have faith in them and patience to help them achieve their dream or goal. I believe I can motivate students, but I do feel like some students are more challenging then others and have other things going on in their lives that can make it difficult for them to be motivated.
