Upon thinking of what to write about for this week’s journal, I couldn’t help but read off assignments from our syllabus that we had spoken about during the first half of class. I found myself overwhelmed with the amount of work we have to do this semester and the time constraints in which to it. I am not a lazy person and I can handle a normal work load, but I am easily stressed and when anxiety sets in I become paralyzed as I said in my “Self Management” assignment. That being said, I will need extra attention from Professor Dengting so that I may succeed in this course to the fullest of my potential. I don’t simply want to do well in this class; I want to learn to become a better teacher.
I am glad that we don’t have very many tests at all, and that is not because I am afraid of them. I simply mean that I do not believe that giving students test after test is going to help the students in the long run. Sure they may pick up a fact here and there and put it to memory when this semester is over, but most information is lost when the student leaves the room after this course is done to move on to the next class to study and put into short term memory. I am excited about this course and all that pertains to it, even though the amount of work involved and it’s time constraints are kind of upsetting. I had spoken to most of the other students in the class who shared my opinion of the work load but we agreed that it is for the best and will benefit our teaching in the long run.
