Last class we learned about Piaget’s stages of development. I remembered a few things about Piaget’s stages of development from past classes (such as EDI 15 and a Psychology course I took in high school.) I remember that I was not a full supporter of Jean Piaget’s stages because I believe that there should be another stage after formal operational. I think that Piaget created a huge gap from thirteen years old until whenever you die. When I was thirteen years old, I do not think I was as mature as I am today. I remember talking about this problem in EDI 15 and my opinion has never changed.
I believe there is another stage after the adolescent stage. I do not know what it would be or if I would call the people from the ages thirteen to twenty one a different name. I think I would move formal operational for people from the ages twenty-one until whenever they pass. I think a distinct stage of cognitive development from the ages thirteen till twenty-one is possible. I was brainstorming names for this stage. Here are some of my examples:
Almost formal operational
Mid-Formal operational
The basis for the new stage would be that the people would know what they should do but they do not do it because they do not want to. I think that would be an example of not thinking completely logically.
