I found today’s class very insightful and interesting; it opened my eyes to the different developmental stages through out a person’s life, which in-turn helps define a person. I agree with Erikson’s Stages of development, and feel that cultural, crisis and most of all, environmental circumstances play a definite role in creating an individual’s identity. I have always had a profound interest in how the developing mind works and how it has an impact on adolescents, their decisions, as well as their behavior. I feel as a prospective teacher, learning these “stages” is a very important step to understanding adolescent behavior and how it may effect them academically and personally, which in turn, will make me a more effective and successful teacher.

When Erikson said, “Early experience affects later life, although it can be repaired.” It made me reflect on how my experiences as an adolescent has had an affect me and made me the person I am today; it made me think about who/what in my life had an impact on me, and influenced the decisions I have made as an adolescent or even as now an adult. My decisions as an adolescent were not always wise, and yes, I made mistakes, but the mistakes I made defined me as a person; I never gave up on myself or life – even when there were people there telling me to give up. I believe that the negative experiences I have had as an adolescent is what made me strive to be a teacher today. I feel that with my experiences and now, my education, I can have a positive impact on someone’s life; teach them the importance of having an education and determination.
