After watching October Sky I felt moved and inspired. I was amazed by Homer’s dedication to his dream and determination to succeed and improve his life; Homer stood his ground even when people did not believe in him and what he wanted to achieve. He was not afraid to be himself or fight for what he believed in, I admired that about his character.  It is touching and inspiring to know that Miss Riley (his teacher) made such a positive impact in his life, it gave me hope and aspiration for the future and the lives I hope to touch.

One of my favorite parts of the movie is when Miss Riley argues with Principal Turner about “false hope”, and Miss Riley said “How 'bout I believe in the unlucky ones? I have to, Mister Turner, I'd go out of my mind.” Miss Riley cared about her student’s and their achievements, she believed in the ones that no one else wanted believed in, that’s what made a difference and Miss Riley such a great and influential teacher. Miss Riley’s influence on Homer (and the Rocket Boys lives) was impressive and made me realize how far one person can reach just by making a difference in someone’s life. How many lives has Homer touched/ affected by his story or who he became. I wondered how Homer’s life would have been if there was no Miss Riley… Where would he be?
