I think that it is very important to know students learning styles before teaching. Everyone learns differently so a teacher must involve all the learning styles into a lesson so everyone is able to learn in their own way. The three major learning styles that I think a teacher should be aware of would be visual, auditory, and tactile or hands on learning. I believe it is possible to include all of these styles into one lesson.
A power point is a great way to get the auditory and visual learning styles taken care of. With the power point the students are seeing the words on a in front of them along with images, videos and diagrams. However while using the power point for visual learners a teacher is still able to lecture to take care of the auditory learners. So two students can be right next to each other and one can be copy from the power point while the other is taking notes on what the teacher is saying.
To make sure the tactile learner understands is a little more difficult and I think it depends on the subject matter. For example math and science are easily hands on subjects but when it comes to an English class that may be more difficult to find hands on activities. I think for the tactile learner you have to get creative. If your teaching history maybe you could have some kind of play or act out scenes from the past. I think it is important to remember that there are different styles so we can not only teach one way; we need to think of all the students. .
