I really loved that we watched the movie October Sky. It is such a good movie and was so inspirational. The move and Homers character were very motivational. Homer’s motivation came from both his love of outer space and his interest in rockets, but it also came from wanting to get out of his hometown and making something of himself. He wanted to be successful and he also did not want to follow in his father’s footsteps. He was motivated both by what he wanted and what he did not want. Homer’s father did not demotivate him because he showed Homer what he did not want to end up like. I think that it is really important for adolescents to have goals and dreams because it will motivate them to do great things and to try hard to accomplish these things.
However I don’t think that it is essential for students to have very specific goals, but students should be motivated both by themselves and by others to try their best at everything that they do. It is a sad reality that these days many students are unmotivated to learn. This may be because of the fact that students do not know what they want to do later in their lives. Maybe if students were taught about what their options could be later in life or about things that they could be interested in doing then they would be motivated and have something to work towards.
