Adolescent motivation: What can we do?

I enjoyed today's class because there was a lot of sharing going on. Everyone was pretty much in agreement with a lot of the factors which define motivation and what's important in effectively motivating an adolescent. It's nice to know that everyone is comfortable sharing their views, opinions and feelings.

I was surprised to hear how many people shared the same opinions on the negative effects on adolescents such as T.V. It's true that T.V. glamorizes many things and adolescents being at an age where they are easily influenced it only makes things worse but what can we do about that? There's really not a whole lot that can be done unfortunately. The only time any action is taken is when something drastic happens from someone imitating something on a show. Maybe instead of damage control they should take preventative measures and not air too many suggestive scenes?? Since we can't rely on T.V. programs to help motivate adolescents we need to to try our best.

Motivating students should be one of the most important factors that an individual is craving to accomplish when choosing to teach adolescents. They need to be made to feel that their dreams and goals do matter and that they should follow them. You really can do anything you want with your life and they also need to understand its THEM who earns their grades, we as teachers, don't blindly assign them. I hope that when I'm a teacher my students feel as excited as I am to come to class every Tuesday and Thursday. That's all because of interesting and engaging conversations and topics and, I know history can sometimes be boring to some students but I am confident that I can keep it interesting with fun activities. I want my students to wonder and be excited each day they come to school thinking "what are we going to do today?!" That would really thrill me and become my own motivation. .
