My role model, my strength, my motivation

My role model is Mrs. Cecile Lawson (my mother), she is always there when I need a listening ear. Mrs. Lawson is a very hard working lady, even when she had a bad day she puts on a smile on her face and you would never no that she’d have a bad day. The reason why I choose my mom for my role model is because she inspires me to accomplish my goals. Mrs. Lawson got her Register Nurse degree at the age of 46yrs old. Even though she had a LPN she insists on going back to school to complete her goal.

After I finish high school I took a break (1year), my mom was asking me when I’m going to start college. I told her soon; however she said I needed to enroll as soon as possible before I get into trouble. I was wondering what my mom was saying. Some of my friends either was pregnant or in jail/prison.

Anyway I enroll myself into SUNY Old Westbury College, I didn’t tell her, she call my job and the accountant told her I was in school, she left a message with her. Once I arrive to work the Thursday, Nancy gave me the message, I call her she was excited for me, I told her I started college and I was living on campus and I come to work from Thursday to Sunday. Then she started to tell me to follow my dream and I can be/accomplish anything once I put my mind to it. She told me how she struggle when she was completing her RN degree but she never give up. She told me it’s ok if I don’t get “A” but once I study hard I’ll achieve all the “A” but I have to work hard to get the A’s. She told me instructor is there to help me so if I don’t understand something I just need to ask.
I got pregnant in my sophomore year; I though Mrs. Lawson would be mad at me. She explains that my unborn child is the blessing in the sky. She told me it’s a learning process and I’ll make mistake so I can learn from it. I didn’t know what she mean by that. After been out of school for 2yrs I decided to go back to school. She said to me “make me proud”. I was 7 of 8 children; the only child would achieve a college degree. She then explain to me that having a child keep me focus and give me the courage to accomplish my degree so I’m able to provide for myself and my child. She also said that’s what she meant by “the unborn child is a blessing in the sky”. Once I had my son, the thing I use to do I do them no more (I think about the consequence before I act).

My mom is special because she never looks down on someone, she will give you a helping hand if you need one, instead of criticizing you. I would love to be like my mom a strong woman who is independent, loving, caring and be there for you even when she got her own problems. She always has a smile on her face even when she’d hurting inside. Those smiles keep her looking young as ever at the age of 69yrs old.
