Peer relationship = Motivation

I was not able to make class last Thursday but I still have some opinions on peer relationships that I would like to address. Last journal I did not express how important peer relationships are to adolescents in high school. I have theory that if a high school student has healthy peer relationships then they do better academically. However, a student who does not have healthy peer relationships, they do not do as well in school.

In high school, I had many healthy peer relationships and they motivated me to do well in school. I also believe that healthy peer relationships motivate students to do well in school or in other activities. When I say “healthy” relationships, I am talking about the many of positive characteristics of a peer relationship. Last week when we did the “Graffiti” project, the class identified many positive and negative characteristics of peer relationships. A “healthy” peer relationship has a perfect mix of all of the positive characteristics that were thought of (ex trust, honesty, reliable, etc.)

Healthy peer relationships are something that everyone should have. However, it is very hard to find healthy peer relationships in high school. I believe there are non-healthier peer relationships in high school rather than healthy ones.
