Adolescents: Are they more sexually active today?

In my opinion I think teenager are more sexually active. When I was a teenager I hardly knew anyone who had sex before the age of 16 and now almost all teens have been sexually active by that point. I remember when my sister, who is 7 years younger than me, was in eighth grade she knew so many girls in her grade who were sexually active. Maybe they all weren't having sexual intercourse but they were at least having oral sex. I remember thinking how crazy that was, and shocked I was when she told me that. I don't know what has caused teens to increasingly turn toward sexual activity. That would be something I would need to research in order to have an educated answer.

I will be extremely nervous when my children reach adolescence when it comes to sexual activity. There is only so much a parent can tell them in an attempt to encourage them to wait for someone who they truly love and can be responsible with when it comes to sex. When it comes down to it, teens are going to do what they want--especially if they know their parents are not going to find out. All I can do is try and educate my children as best as I can on the seriousness of sexual activity and the life changing consequences it can provoke.
