Motivating students to learn by supporting their dreams

I think motivation is a very important thing for students. Once their motivation is gone they shut down and do not concentrate on school or learning. Their focus is easily lost to computers, tv's, and video games. Keeping students motivated can be a really difficult task and must happen right away. If a student or class doesn't get interested within the first week they will be longer interested in paying attention to your class, especially when they are older.

Teachers should be extremely supportive with children's dreams. If they think that you do not believe in them most times they might give up. In the movie Hommer took his father's diapproval and ran with it. He used it to work harder and achieve his goals but I think most students will give up without support from someone they trust.

I know my girlfriend lost her motivation because her father did not believe in her going to school. He wanted her to go to a trade school and learn a trade, knowing she wanted to be a marine vertebrate biologist. Her dad said he would only support her if she went to a trade school and she went for a few weeks and then stopped going and her dad refused to help her out after that. I thankfully believe in her and convinced her to apply to colleges she wanted to and my mother and I would help her achieve her goals and I am happy and proud to say Kimberly will be attending college in the fall!
