Reflecting on the role of religion in my life

Religion has not been a real driving force in my life up to this point. When I was younger (middle school through high school) I used to pray every night before I went to sleep. However I have not seriously prayed in a very long time. There are so many contradictions within the Roman Catholic church. As a result I have become less and less influenced by religion and feel that I have enough strength in my life to the point where I do not feel I need to turn towards religion when facing tough times.

Many people don't put much influence on religion until a time of crisis arises and then they want to pray for a miracle. I believe that fate is what ultimately comes out of our lives here on earth and that decisions, whether they be right or wrong, is what makes up our lives. Religion has caused much bloodshed throughout history and dramatic events seem to almost always ensue. This causes me to question whether or not it's the actual religious views being portrayed or humans interpretations of the views becoming distorted.
