Today we went over community of respect in class which in my opinion is great due to the diversity that we have in class. What is community of respect you may ask? How important is it to the process of learning may also come to mind. Well keep reading and I will share all that with you.
My class is very diverse. What I mean by that is that we have different age group, different cultural background, and different sex group. The community of respect will help greatly because what may bother me may not be a bother to another; therefore it will serve as a moderator. What is community a respect? It is what I may call a set of rules to regulate the class and to keep it running smooth with no chaos. Why would there be chaos if we are a bunch of adult one may ask? Well just like a previously said what may be fine with me may be a distraction to others. I think it is the best moderator that any professor could come up with and the fact that it is named community of respect gives it a sense that we are a community, the professor’s own little community. It makes it easy for both the teacher and the students. Now we all know what is expected of us and the professor as well by having us put in our two cents in will also know what is expected of her.
How important is it to the process of learning? Briefly, it makes our lives easier, it makes learning better. I think that people learn better when there is no distraction and when there is respect from the professor and fellow peers. It is also a learning strategy if we think about it. The professor gives us a set of rules, we read them, take notes then we put them in application. Plain and simple.
In conclusion today’s class makes me feel that I belong and that I have a say. Community respect rules!!
