Walking into class today, I was not as nervous as the first class, and was actually looking forward to this class compared to the other two classes I already had. Prof. Boyanton is very kind, and her personality is what makes class fun and engaging. She tries to make assignments feel less stressful, she engages the class with funny jokes, and makes sure everyone feels comfortable sharing their experiences and opinions. Each student in the classroom respects and gets along with one another. I feel that each student interacts more with one another, because of the name game. This game made sure each student knew one another, and walking into class everyone was very friendly and not as shy as the first day. The first activity we did in class, was a name game quiz. Each student had to write down on a piece of paper all the student?s names they remembered from the previous name game.
To my surprise, I actually remembered almost twenty names, and that was the case with other students as well. I really liked the next assignment we would be doing in class. It was called: community of respect. Prof. Boyanton listed on a slide the type of behaviors she expects from each student. I believe this is very important for a professor to do, because then each student will know what is expected of them, as well as the kind of behavior which is not advised in that particular classroom. I also felt that this was important, because what one student may think is respectful another may disagree. Now each student is on the same page and will have the same respect from Prof. Boyanton, as well as in her classroom.
When I become a teacher, I am defiantly going to share the ground rules and what I expect in my classroom. In high school, students tend to be disrespectful and rowdy in order to impress peers; however, if you share with your students ahead of time what you expect this can eliminate others from being disrespectful in the classroom. I also feel more comfortable speaking out loud in class now, because each student believed that it is inappropriate and rude to speak while another student is speaking. I am glad that everyone felt the same way, especially because this makes me feel extremely uncomfortable.
As of right now I am confident about taking this course. Although, Prof. Boyanton explained that this course is extremely time consuming, I feel that the majority of classes I took at C.W.Post have been time consuming. I am a student who is a hard worker and is constantly doing assignments and studying. I am not a slacker and will make sure to do my work on time or even before in order to help my stress load, especially since I am taking six demanding courses. I feel that even though this class will be a lot of hard work and dedication, it will also be fun, interesting, and very educational.
