EDI 17 Psychology and Development of Adolescent Students
Long Island University, C. W. Post
September , 2010
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Loyola University Maryland, I thought it would be different and exciting to take classes at C.W Post – Long Island University for my graduate education. This class is a required education pre-requisite for my pursuit of a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology. I realized that taking an adolescent education class will help me better understand the thoughts, desires, and complexities of my future adolescent patients throughout clinical practice.
I was very interested and anxious to see what this class had to offer, as it is my first education class as a college student. Today’s class really surpassed my expectations. Professor Boyanton motivated the entire class to participate together in a constructed but relaxed manner. I was able to learn all of my classmate’s names through “The Name Game”, which was the main focus of today’s class. Each student came up with a creative pairing to their name, while the rest of the class concentrated and memorized each name. This game motivated the students to participate, remember, and be creative all in one. It was also a fantastic way to get to know everybody. I really felt that the classroom was filled with energy and enthusiasm, which is a great way to start off the school year. I now know a creative way to initially get to know my future students through this name “ice breaker”.
