Today in class we separated into groups according to our ethnicity. I was excited to hear about all the different cultures. Again I was even more excited because this lesson will help me with my research paper on culture and learning. I am Italian American and I am proud of it. I know all the typical stereo types that we are known to have. Some are not very nice. The one thing I really dislike is when people think we are associated with the mafia. It’s a shame but every ethnicity has their negative stereotypes.
I learned a lot about the Asian culture. I did not know that the color of rice shows if you are rich or poor. I feel bad for them because of the pressure they have to do well in school. Its pressure from family and also from society with is double the difficulty. I also learned about being Hispanic and how the stereotypes affect their culture. Hispanics are known for not continuing with their education. The women are known to become a housewife almost directly after high school. Hispanic women want to go further with their education and achieve success.
I really enjoyed today’s class and am looking forward to the rest of the semester.
