As I expected after the atmosphere set by our first class, I really enjoyed our second class. I like that so much time was allotted to going over the course syllabus. While the work load is a little overwhelming, the time that we took to go over the expectations in full detail really helped to make it seem more achievable. I like that we took the entire class time to read it over together and then ask any questions that still remained. Not many professors take the time to go over it in that depth, which leaves their students confused as to what they must do. Furthermore, some professors grow angry when students ask for clarification later on in the semester and often their response seems to be, “Refer to the syllabus. It is all explained there.” Since I am the kind of student that needs structure and direction, I was pleased with today’s lesson.
After reflecting over the information given to us yesterday, the coursework does not seem too difficult to handle. It is all really about staying organized, reflecting, and improving ourselves as future teachers. I like a lot of the assignments, and I like the fact that everything we do works towards our final research paper. In some classes there is an overabundance of busy work. While we have a lot to accomplish here, it all works towards one final and respectable goal.
My one concern is keeping up with the journals as the semester progresses, but I think my best approach will be to complete them as soon as I get home each day. I have done nightly reflections in high school, so I understand the value of them very well, it is just sometimes hard to sit and reflect when so many other things are on your mind.
You seem to be a very understanding teacher, with a sound purpose for every assignment that you give. I am looking forward to learning a lot in this class, especially since I will be student teaching next semester. I have not committed to a research paper topic just yet, but knowing all of the work that is involved in completing the paper, I know that I will definitely pick something along the classroom management route in order to help prepare me for the challenges of next semester. I am looking forward to a great semester! Thank you for taking the time to review and outline the course as you did, it does make a difference!
