Impact of class size on student personality in the classroom

While yesterday we only had our second class of the semester, because last week was a snow day. It turned out to be a fun class. I never realized how much I really like being in a class with only 10 students. It makes me feel so much more comfortable and easier for me personally to have an open classroom discussion. As I said in my self-management assignment I get major anxiety knowing when I have to speak in front of large groups of people. I really wish that all classes were given with fewer students.

Not only do I prefer being in a small class, I believe a smaller class size can accomplish so much more. For example, we discussed openly about our fears of being future teachers and were able to ask Dr. Boyanton and fellow classmate Cindy advice on any questions that we had. It was pretty interesting the questions everyone had and the answers that Cindy and Dr. Boyanton had to our questions. I felt like because we had a smaller class we were able to express our fears and questions more in depth, where as if we had a large class, I know at least for someone like me, I probably wouldn’t have shared my personal fears of being a teacher with the class. Therefore I wouldn’t have learned as much as I did. This gets me thinking about my research topic about the different personalities in a classroom and the affects of one’s personalities in the classroom. A person, who tends to be shy, like me, really misses out on a lot of opportunities, and would benefit more in a smaller classroom setting.
