Reading Erikson

Well unfortunately class was cancelled today January 27, 2011. We had a major storm the day before, so the roads were too covered and slippery. Well as I read our textbook I paid particular attention to Erik Erikson’s theory. I like his theory of all the different stages a child will go through, because I feel it is an accurate description of stages of life. I am an advocate for paying attention to social development for a child because this will greatly affect the ability to function in later life experiences. I also liked how the book gave a real situation of Mrs. Peterson and Antwon. This made the reading of adolescent development be put into perspective because it showed the difficulties between the student and the teacher.

One thing I found confusing about the reading was the language used. I found it tougher than other education courses because it seemed like a more in depth analysis of a student who is developing in the education system. I hope we can start class up again soon, because I don’t want to fall too far behind. I am very interested to learn why different students from different backgrounds act the way they do in and out of class. This course I feel will provide me with this information. I also think this class will give me the ability to discover who I am as a student and a future teacher. As of now I would consider myself an athlete and a nerd. I enjoy playing sports and always being active, but I know I have to take my work very seriously.
