Todays class was very interesting to me, because it allowed us to evaluate ourselves from a very young age. I was able to see the progress I have made throughout the past 15 years of my life, and I am quite proud. I was able to also share some experiences with my fellow classmates, which brought a new perspective to the table for many. I learned interesting things about my classmates which made me realize everyone comes from a different background and has their own experiences. Although things are different there are similarities because of the process of maturing and growing up.
Dr. Boyanton continuously encourages her students which makes me want to participate and try even harder. I love her examples given in class because they give a clear-cut meaning to each topic we talk about. I agree with Erik Erikson in many ways, because his research came true in my life partly. The different stages are appropriate for all different ages, although in class we discussed how one stage, Intimacy vs. Isolation, could be possibly moved to an earlier age. Personally I think this is true, because kids are questioning sexuality earlier and earlier. When a student is curious at a younger age, he or she will explore rather then just push the curiosity to the side.
Overall Erikson made sense of his findings. One point I really enjoy hearing is that no child is a bad child. This statement is important in my future teaching career, because a teacher must understand, everyone comes from different backgrounds and experiences in which one must not directly judge (Journal 6- Dominique Serpico). I give permission to publish this using my PEN name: Education
