Gender Box: Exploring gender differences

I really enjoyed today’s class because we were divided into two groups to discuss the characteristic differences between men and women. I think us women leaned a lot about ourselves. The activity overall helped us to learn how we as women are stereotyped and judged based on our gender. It also reminds others on the importance that women play in life. We are sensitive, emotional, sometimes crazy but also very caring, generous, and compassionate people.

A lot of women are taken for granted in today’s society because we are expected to do things for men like in the old days and most of the time we are discouraged and underestimated. Not many people believe that women can act or do the same roles men do and it’s wrong because a lot of women who go through life crisis become very strong and end up serving a role like a man would.

The activity was fun and a lesson simultaneously because it served the purpose to freshen our ideas on how important women and men are. It served the purpose of distinguishing certain roles that men play and certain roles that women play, naturally. I really feel and believe that if stereotypes were thought differently, there would be better equal opportunities and we would all be treated much more equal.

The world of adolescents is very similar. Because of the level and the status we all live upon in this world, we are not treated equal because our status doesn’t permit it. In my opinion, we would all be treated equal if our level of intelligence were the same, but because we are all different in that aspect, we cannot be treated as one. Every individual is different and distinguishes something unique about themselves. This is the reason for this activity; to get us to think about the adolescent world and not to judge anyone because we are all different and we play our own unique role.
