Today’s adolescents moral behavior in general is rather questionable if compared to the standards of morality set by previous generations. Although there are still many adolescents who learn enough about ethic behavior at home, very few of them actually practice what they are taught. Nowadays, most children are really influenced by the media, and unfortunately, some of the messages conveyed by it encourage potentially negative behaviors. Based on what they see on television, magazines and some other popular mediums of communication, adolescents are growing up under the influence of very irreverent ideas.
Sadly, today’s media does not only invite adolescents to engage in risky behaviors and substance consumption, but it also insinuates constantly that capitalistic achievement is far more important than personal development. As a result of the popularization of the ideas enforced by a culture that essentially revolves around consumerism, adolescents are forgetting that values such as consciousness, respect, honesty and integrity, are truly important for their development as well rounded individuals.
